Cyber-psychologist Berni Goode talking about Flow on Charlie Brooker’s How Videogames Changed the World.
Flow is extremely important. So, so important.
It’s what keeps some people sane. It’s what drives the world’s most skilled and accomplished athletes, the most intense gamers, the hardcore hobbyists, even many of the most talented artists, musicians and actors - flow is what you get when unstoppable drive meets an unflinching will and unlimited dedication.
Flow is being utterly, truly “in the zone”. And it’s one of the most amazing feelings there is.
This is why finding a sport, or a hobby, or a martial art, or a handicraft, or a new video game, or any skill-based activity that uses focus and requires practice and repetition is so beneficial for things like depression and anxiety and overall mental/physical well-being.
The Pacific Rim theme performed with piano and violin. It’s outstanding.

A very big project I have been commissioned for. The customer wanted both my Bracer of Light and Alchemist’s Bracer as full blown gauntlets. This project was VERY challenging. I used this tutorial and pattern: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVM-dCKhaL4
It’s a very good pattern, but it turns out to not work all that well with a bendable material like the leather I used. I could have used stiffer leather, but then it would have become too bulky. But if you want to make gauntlets out of metal, cardboard, or plastic and don’t know how to make your own pattern this one is well worth the 5$.
Anyway, I first made a cardboard template to get an idea of how to put everything together and how to modify the pattern to fit better with my bracers. I decided to make the main hand plate much larger and more overlapping, adding decorative lines to tie it together visually with the BoL. I could have made the gloves used as a base myself, but I found cheap ones online, so I didn’t bother with making my own. Riveting everything together was quite a challenge, especially the rivets going through the gloves. I nicked the gloves a few times with my tools :/
After I made the two gloves, I riveted them to slightly modified bracers.
I custom fitted everything to the hand size of the customer, which was several sizes over mine. That’s why my arms look so tiny in those pics :P
A lot of people have asked me if I’ll ever offer gauntlets in this style in my store and the answer is a definite no… If made in this style, they are way too complicated to make and the result wouldn’t be worth the price tag I had to put on them. If I ever get around to do metal work, or some sort of pastic plating, I will definitely revive this pattern, though.
Also there are my Bruiser Gauntlet’s now, which are much easier to make :3
